Best Day Trips from Istanbul
Princes' Islands, Bursa, Gallipoli, and more — what's actually worth a day away from the city.

The four best day trips
1. Princes' Islands
An hour ferry to Büyükada. No cars. Bikes, horse carts, restored mansions, pine forests. A full day trip, best May–September.
2. Bursa
The first Ottoman capital. Two hours by bus. Green Mosque, Grand Mosque, the covered market. Doable as a day but better as an overnight.

Black Sea beach towns 90 minutes north. Popular with locals on summer weekends. Rustic, laid-back, seafood.
4. Polonezköy
A Polish village 40 minutes from the city center. Farm-to-table restaurants, hiking trails, no monuments.
Not worth the trip (from Istanbul, in a day)
**Cappadocia** — flight both ways, at minimum an overnight. **Ephesus** — same, needs a plane and an overnight. **Gallipoli** — a long emotional day; possible but rushed.
