Getting from Istanbul Airport to Your Hotel (Without Getting Ripped Off)
Taxi, Havaist bus, metro, and private transfer compared — with prices, times, and the specific scam to avoid.

Four ways in
Istanbul Airport (IST) sits 45 km north of the old city. The four ways to reach your hotel have very different price-to-comfort ratios.
1. Havaist bus (€6–8)
Reliable, hourly, drops at named points across the city. HAVAIST-16 is the Sultanahmet route. 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Best budget option.
2. Metro M11 (€1.50)
Now open to the city. Change at Gayrettepe for the M2 south. Fast, cheap, but multiple transfers with luggage.
3. Taxi (€35–50)
Yellow official taxis only, from the marked queue. Insist on the meter. Do NOT accept "fixed price" offers from touts inside the terminal.

Save transfers — they're included in your pass tier4. Included pass transfer
DISCOVER and PRIME tiers of the Istanbul Pass include the airport transfer both ways — private car, name on a sign, no negotiation. On a two-way trip that's €50–70 back in your pocket.
The scam to know about
Unofficial "taxi" drivers approach in arrivals. They quote €80–100 as a "fixed price" and there's no meter. Walk to the yellow taxi queue outside.
Return trip
Book your outbound taxi the night before through your hotel. Traffic can double the transfer time on weekday mornings — leave 3.5 hours before departure.
