The Best Time to Visit Istanbul, Month by Month

The short answer

Late April to mid-June, and mid-September to early November. These are the two windows where the weather cooperates, the light is beautiful, and the crowds haven't overwhelmed the old city.

Month by month

**January–February.** Cold, occasional snow, gray. Cheapest hotels of the year. Genuinely atmospheric if you like empty streets and steamy tea houses.

**March.** Shoulder season begins. Cool, sometimes rainy, but tulip season starts and the light is exceptional.

**April.** The tulip festival is a real thing — Emirgan Park is worth a morning. Crowds still manageable.

**May.** Peak. Warm, sunny, everything blooming. Book two months out.

**June.** Warm, long days, tourism ramping. The last two weeks are the tipping point into summer.

**July–August.** Hot (32°C+), crowded, and expensive. Don't come if you can avoid it.

**September.** The best-kept secret. Warm sea, fewer tourists after the first week.

**October.** Foliage on the Bosphorus, cool evenings, ideal walking weather.

**November.** Rainy weeks alternate with clear ones. Locally beloved.

**December.** Cold and beautiful. Christmas doesn't happen but New Year's Eve is festive.
